What would you do if you were God? I think that will vary in different circumstances and for several people. Do you think God would respond in the same way? Take, for example, a scenario from the book: The father of a four-year-old girl whose family is committed to serving God has his child murdered by a next-door neighbor who, after committing such a heinous act, felt no remorse. The father of the deceased four-year-old seeks revenge by killing the wife of the next-door neighbor and immediately turns himself in after the act. He is tried in court but pleads with God to save him from a death sentence. What would be your response as God? Would you save the father of the deceased four-year-old girl who killed the wife of his next-door neighbor as a means of seeking revenge? Would you justify the act he committed out of revenge? After thinking of what you would do as God, think about how God responds in such a scenario. This scenario and several others were provided in this book, each detailing what man’s response might be in contrast to God's response.

After reading this book, I would say that I understand that God has to make so many tough decisions concerning man each day despite extending a hand that guides us, which most of us tend to neglect and only fall back to Him once our way fails us. What I like the most about this book is how I am able to feel God's unfailing love towards me and every human in how He responds, backed with scriptures. His response is measured and delivered in love; there is no second-guessing with God. He knows that He wants us by His side, and though His decisions sometimes might not be what we want, we realize that it is actually what we need.

Sometimes, the stories play out to be scenarios that have happened in reality, as I have heard similar stories before. Others sounded incredulous because not everyone will blame God in certain situations. Notwithstanding, I also believe that some people might give this same response. The fictional stories lead to one of the things I did not like about the book: it would have been more reassuring and had more depth if they were all real-life stories. Also, the book seemed to contain so many stories with almost the same context, which deterred my interest in the book a bit. There are many sides to God apart from forgiving, which was the central theme in the stories. God also does miracles and does not just let you live out the consequences of your mistakes. God does not just guide; He protects also. God would protect His own, and I believe that for the scenario I mentioned earlier, God would also seek ways to protect the four-year-old from being killed. I am not totally ruling out the possibility of the death of the child; yet, in this particular scenario, I thought of how God always protects and keeps His own in safety, which I have seen in several circumstances.

I like that the Bible verses quoted at the end of some chapters flowed coherently. Despite being drawn from several Bible chapters, they felt connected to the concept in that chapter. However, I did not like the repetition of some verses, which is another reservation I hold about Awakening to the Truth by Jerry Troyer.

Therefore, I rate this book three out of five stars. This book contains a number of errors and would need another editing round. The errors also contributed to the rating. Fans of short stories and anyone seeking to know God better should read this book, in my opinion.
