The Stone and the Flute

Has anyone read 'The Stone and the Flute' by Hans Bemmann? I have started it 3 times now and really enjoy it but get pulled away by other (shorter) books. I think my resolution for 2009 is to 'Finish it!' I have the same problem with 'Maia' by Richard Adams. Am I on my own with this problem?
