I like to have a narrator - I like to watch events unfold in books instead of experiencing them.

I honestly like first person better. I don't really know why I just can't get into narrated stories.

I agree that reading something written from the 1st person perspective allows a greater, and I often find faster, connection to the writer however, works that are narrative can also be enjoyable. It is notable to me though that narratives that appeal to me are often older works. I wonder is the preference for 1st person works is a newer trend amongst readers?

I'll happily read either but I think first person is my preference. Everyone is different though, my Mum hates first person narrative.

I definitely get more pulled into books written in first person but sometimes I think that having a narrator is more appropriate for the story being told. So for me it varied based on the context.

I can't really remember the last time I read a first-person narrative. I'd have to go with third-person.

I prefer 1st person stories. You can get a better feel for the character and their personality if it is told from their point of view. I have read a couple of good narrated books but I prefer the 1st person perspective.

I think this depends entirely on the story, itself-the tone, plot, etc.

Both.

It depends on the story, so that's hard to pick.

I personally prefer 1st person because it gives the reader access to deeper understandings and feeling and i personally feel more like a part of the story in this particular narration

I prefer 1st person, personally. You tend to feel more connected to the book.

Depends on the book and what it is trying to do.

I agree I believe that 1st person connects more with the readers than a narrator.
