Addendum: My mother skips pages all the time and will even read the end of a book before starting at the beginning! It's understandable though, she never gets the time to read so she tries to get the most out of any second she can get.

I can understand the author putting something like it in, but when he dedicated so much to it, I simply could not read through the book. To be honest, I found the book quite boring. There was too much repetition about the same topic, and the perverse nature of the Japanese soldiers portrayed in this book, was to be honest, disturbing. I have two other books of this author to read but, whether I will get to them, I don't know. I will let anyone know who wishes to know the name of the author if they wish.

I think it might have to do with the internet article/ blog-post/ twitter phenomenon, where people just want to get to the point with their reading and writing, rather than carefully spend time on how best to convey their points.anomalocaris wrote:I never used to, but I do now, because the industry standards have totally gone down the drain. Since almost no one is writing quality prose anymore, I end up just reading for the story, which I can easily follow without reading every tortured, unedited word.
