I don't have the best life, everyone has problems. Reading is like my escape, I go into a world that has a happy ending most likely. When the book ends I try to continue the story and imagine how it would continue, and sometimes I try to add a new character. Sometimes I stop and sometimes I get a bit carried away but that's one of the best things about a story there's no limit.

You are in good company Mari .... many people use books to escape the monotony of long illness or difficult family situations - indeed my of our great writers became obsessed with books and reading in an effort to escape.
I sympathise with you and am glad you too have found an escape in reading.

I love how stories allow you to do this. I've always been fond of as I read a story I turn it into a movie in my head. So as I read I also watch the show!!!

I wouldn't say I escape from the life I have but I step into another world for a while and also see it like a movie. And afterwards the books I read are like memories.

Influence. Growing up my brother always had books lying around. I've been addicted ever since I was a little kid. I always grow so attached to the characters when the author develops them right, and at the end of a good book I feel great. I can't watch t.v. it's just too idiotic. So I'll stick to reading and playing guitar. :)

I read for the following reasons:

1. It takes me places

2. It entertains me

3. It educates me

4. It relaxes me

It's my own time, and I get to immerse myself in a world that usually takes me far longer than a two hour movie (I'm a slow reader!).

Couldn't agree more with those reasons!

Hi, I was the youngest and the only girl in my family. In my culture girls were brought up at home. Books were my friends and it took me to places far away. I read anything and everything i could find, borrow or buy. Today reading helps me relax especially if i am stressed and i must admit i still love going on does journeys to far away lands.

Reading gives me entertainment that is useful and interesting as opposed to television. I only watch football games :D

I never really thought about why I read. I suppose I always liked the idea of reading as a way to expend my intellect, vocabulary and knowledge.

Hmm... I just remembered something, my family and i never really took vacations away from home, my grandparents lived on a lagoon by the ocean so that's where we would spend summers. I remember wanting to go to Japan so my Nana bought me a book about the country. I think it was a travelers guide or something and that's what started me reading really. So I would have to add that reading was a way for me to travel.
