While the trilogy is blatantly untrue to the book, I honestly still loved it. Which I know is a VERY unpopular opinion. Seeing characters of one of my favorite books come to life was such an amazing experience. Martin Freeman was a wonderful choice for Bilbo and I was in awe of watching Smaug on the big screen. Even though it wasn't always what you would expect from the book and added a lot of material, I really like the trilogy's plot. What do you guys think about the movies versus the books? Did you enjoy the movies or think that they're not that great?

I loved the Hobbit. It was an amazing movie as far as i am concerned. I have always wondered about the hobits and how they lived their lives.

The Hobbit trilogy is one of my favourite movies. Love how the movie is visually stunning. One of the best fantasy movies.

I think it sucked. The CGI was weird, and some of the characters were okay, but everything else is just dragged out and unnecessary. It shouldn't have been 3 movies.

Yes, it's an excellent trilogy. Much better than the series that Amazon tried to make (and failed miserably). The problem with those who don't like it is that they compare it to Peter Jackson's trilogy, and that's "cowardice."

I liked it, not necessarily the best, A couple of issues here and there, but characters, themes, and directing cinematography were great.

Thank you for that heads-up @Graham Gill. That series of books has been on my TBR forever and every time I pass my bookshelf, I feel guilt pangs. This is great news for me - that I should put off reading the book until I've watched the movie!! :lol2:

I hadn't read the book yet but movie is quite appealing. It's like they created whole new, interesting world. Storyline is not simple so it was interesting movie to watch

I personally love it. I know it received a lot of criticism from people who considered it to not be very cannon, but that doesn’t bother me. All book to movie adaptations have some changes. And none of the changes in the trilogy are anything I would consider offensive (to me personally).
For instance:
A lot of people disapproved of the inclusion of the character Tauriel, but I personally love her. 🩷 I was even her for Halloween this year. 🎃

I've not seen them in a long time but they were tolerable, albeit long. I'm yet to read the book to see if that would be better enjoyed.

I really enjoyed the movies! I felt so drawn in watching them. I have actually never read the books. I wanted to read them as soon as I watched the movies, but never really had the opportunity. They're still on my 'to read' list, and hopefully sometime soon I'll have the chance to compare them!
