Wild world by Peter Rush is an exciting tale of one collegiate man’s jarring journey from the idealistic college world into a corrupt reality, set during the Vietnam war. Make no mistake this is not a war novel, but rather a thoughtful story about the dichotomy between right and wrong.

The reader follows Steve a bright and passionate pre-law student immersed in the cocoon of college culture with a group of friends who are intent on changing the world. The group attends protests and spends their free time focused on how to make the world a better place. Steve falls passionately in love with Roxy, a coed, who is pre-med and an equally passionate defender of justice. After being inspired by a speaker at an event they both attend, Steve decides after graduating he is going to stop talking about change and start participating in it by joining the police force. Steve’s naivete is quickly apparent and threats from all sides start compounding while he appears to not understand the severity of the situation, until a culminating incident.

This novel does an excellent job setting up an exciting plot where the reader is catapulted into Steve’s journey. However, the author does have a tendency to make some scene changes in the middle of chapters which can be challenging for the reader to follow along with. When those mid chapter changes happen, the reader has to do some rereading to get back on track with the story line. The author did a fantastic job setting up some clever plotlines that this reader was excited to follow for an explosive and exciting ending. However, the novel ended in a way that felt anticlimactic, with little fanfare that left this reader wanting more. For that reason, this book was rated 4 out of 5 stars.
