I don't know about y'all, but I always think in terms of my husband's majestic, quivering, staff of steel entering my budding womanly depths of searing heat...AliceofX wrote: ↑01 Sep 2018, 02:58 To me, that was the most cringe-inducing part of the book. I can't stand when writers try to be all literary and use phrases like, "openly displaying his manly attributes," and, "She was a tight bud opening to his heat." Just use adult words for goodness sake.
But maybe that's just me. Maybe that would have made the book too adult. What did you think?
Isn't that normal for everyone?

Oh TBH I haven't a chance to read bodice rippers from the late 80s, but now that I think about it, the explicit scenes written by some male writers are equal parts horrifying and hilarious!

LOL, maybe you should be a writer. If 50 Shades of Gray is anything to go by, you'll be rich in no time.

It is true for sure that if one has decided to add these scenes then they should be done well and professionally. The stance is that I dislike reading any work with graphic scenes and the point here was that whether they were written well or not, then I would dislike them.

This is true. There is a lot that the author would have done to improve on his writing.

Wow, this is amazing. I had not thought of it along this line but it is true. I hope the romance depiction was good enough.KRay93 wrote: ↑02 Sep 2018, 17:14 I guess you can say that the scenes were a bit cringe-worthy. This usually happens when an author ends up debating between over-embellishing or vulgarizing the terms that will be used when writing these types of scenes. In any manner, the romance is more important in the story than the erotic scenes, so this is something that can be overlooked.
