I guess you can say that the scenes were a bit cringe-worthy. This usually happens when an author ends up debating between over-embellishing or vulgarizing the terms that will be used when writing these types of scenes. In any manner, the romance is more important in the story than the erotic scenes, so this is something that can be overlooked.

But maybe that's just me. Maybe that would have made the book too adult. What did you think?

I don't mind adult themes but it's a chore when they are not written well

I don't mind adult scenes in the books I read, but I like when it is done without the use of corny sayings. It is sex. Plan and simple. Some fun word play is good, but cliche phrases are not.

I think you're right to an extent, but there will be restrictions as the book can't be bought by the people younger than 18 years old

I totally agree with you. I wouldn't even call the scenes in the book erotic or explicit. They are nothing worse (or maybe worse in a Pollyanna-ish way) than the good old bodice rippers of the late 80s.
Oh TBH I haven't a chance to read bodice rippers from the late 80s, but now that I think about it, the explicit scenes written by some male writers are equal parts horrifying and hilarious!

Can we all agree that Catrin’s half brother & his incestuous behavior just makes this book terrible/cringe worthy.

LOL, maybe you should be a writer. If 50 Shades of Gray is anything to go by, you'll be rich in no time.

What is your stance on these types of scenes? You say that it hasn't changed; I'm curious to hear your thoughts on them in general. I think, if done correctly, they can really add a lot of a book. The inverse is also true.
It is true for sure that if one has decided to add these scenes then they should be done well and professionally. The stance is that I dislike reading any work with graphic scenes and the point here was that whether they were written well or not, then I would dislike them. :D

This is true. There is a lot that the author would have done to improve on his writing.

LOL :D For me I have to go with what the author is writing since I do not have a wife yet :D :D You can write well.

Wow, this is amazing. I had not thought of it along this line but it is true. I hope the romance depiction was good enough.

I think romantic and erotic scenes are important part of a novel, but they should not be vulgar and make a reader feel uncomfortable.
