However, when you have lost someone to cancer or to any disease then that is how you feel: that you have lost. So, it is natural that a title like "winning" does not sit well.

I think cancer is curable if caught at the beginning stage. It's unable us to think true hope.
Its really one of the complex disease "Cancer"it has taken so much from so many people world wide . The title represent hope to overcome. Hope that we can not only overcome the disease itself, but we can also overcome the losses and pain it causes.
I think the title as befitting and accurate.

Oh! this is a new perspective! I really didn't think about the word "war" when I saw it. As having read the book, I am not now sure if the author meant "war" against cancer itself or the "war" between pharmaceutical and the traditional. I think I'll think more about this. Thanks for this insight! "tiphat:esthersamone wrote: ↑04 Jan 2019, 01:35 I have no problem with the title. However, the word "war" stood out strongly. When one imagines how ugly and heated war can be, and that this is how we have to confront cancer, you pause to think again.

Kudos to the ones who are still doing their best to find a cure! I do appreciate your insight! Thank you!Miercoles wrote: ↑05 Jan 2019, 15:37 My initial response on seeing the title was that the book offered some hope of a positive treatment for cancer. Cancer can affect so many different parts of the body and there is still so much unknown that I am not sure that anyone is winning at this stage, but it is nevertheless good to acknowledge the ongoing efforts of those who continue to search for a cure.

Thank you for explaining your perspective. I do hope we'll find the ultimate cure!Darlynn_Tebogo wrote: ↑05 Jan 2019, 13:36 Winning the war on cancer doesn't sound impossible in this day and age with the amount of resources being poured into finding a cure. After reading a sample of this book I understood where the author is coming from, hence I understand why the author might have titled the book " Winning the war on cancer". It doesn't sound practical and you might also say that the author is trying to make money by selling false hope but she is giving her perspective on how cancer can be defeated as the daughter of the French molecular biologist and not just some random person. Hence why I believe the title to have been appropriate for the book.

Glad that the title sits well with you! Thank you for understanding my side.chironwolf52 wrote: ↑05 Jan 2019, 10:34 The title led me to read the review of the book. From reading the review it confirmed what I've believed for a while: that cancer can be treated successfully, but those ways are being suppressed by the mainstream. This can be said for all diseases.
However, when you have lost someone to cancer or to any disease then that is how you feel: that you have lost. So, it is natural that a title like "winning" does not sit well.
