My interest was piqued at the mention of an "atheist" hamster, because I was like...wait...what?? Lol This book sounds like a lot of fun so I'm going to check it out.
I think believer and non-believer can both enjoy this book. I just got the free version for review. I look forward to reading this book. I am a believer and I'm very hopeful that I won't be disappointed.

Great review! The book sounds interesting, with Will talking to a sarcastic and irritable God. Even though I am not religious, I might pick this book up and give it a try.

I like the light in which wills relationship with god was painted as each persons relationship with god is unique. Its great to know that a book with religion also contains humor,
In one instance, God declared that he might become an atheist while listening to a prosperity gospel sermon in a mega-church.
that must have been some sermon :lol2:

Ken Clatterbaugh’s The Freedom of Will seems to be an enlightening and entertaining ride. It masterfully blends faith exploration with humor as well as memorable characters like Will and his conversations with God. They do a really great job of engaging in character development and examining the religious belief system as a whole. It appears to bring a new take on the role of religion in American life, while also delivering both laughs and deep thoughts. I will definitely be adding this to my must-read list.

Will Tillit’s journey sounds both humorous and profound, exploring themes of faith and identity through unique characters. The blend of adventure and introspection, along with the quirky interactions with his “sarcastic” God, promises an engaging narrative that challenges traditional beliefs.

'Will has a secret he hardly shares with anyone; he has conversations with God. However, Will's diety sounds nothing like that of his guardians. Will's god is somewhat sarcastic, a little irritable, but also insightful.'
Will and his god are interesting characters.

The story about an abandoned child is definitely not my cup of tea. While I understand that different circumstances might force a mother to make such a choice, in my opinion, the least she could do is assume responsibility and make sure her child gets a better life than becoming an orphan with living parents.

"The Freedom of Will" explores 19-year-old Will Tillit's journey of faith and self-exploration. With an unconventional portrayal of "God," colorful characters, and clever humor, it humorously critiques how religion influences identity and personal growth.

Thank you for such a thorough and engaging review! The Freedom of Will sounds like an incredibly unique coming-of-age story that balances humor, introspection, and social commentary. I find it fascinating how the author uses Will's conversations with God as both a comedic and philosophical tool to explore religion and belief systems. The sarcastic and irritable tone of Will's deity adds an intriguing layer to his spiritual journey, making it more relatable and thought-provoking.

I also appreciate the variety of characters mentioned in the review—lesbian nuns, likable felons, and a tornado-riding woman! It seems like these colorful individuals contribute significantly to Will’s growth and challenge conventional perspectives on faith. The banter between Will and God, especially the part about God considering atheism during a prosperity gospel sermon, made me laugh just reading about it.

Your description of the book's blend of absurd comedy and insightful arguments makes me want to pick it up immediately. It’s refreshing to see a debut novel tackle such complex topics in a way that's both entertaining and thought-provoking. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
