Review of The Shaft
How far are you willing to go to defend your faith and belief? The Bible says, 'We are in the world, but we are not of the world.' This world is ever-changing, and some of the changes contradict our faith. Would you be willing to fight corporations to death to defend human ethics? This is what The Shaft, the first book in the Global Calling series by Scott B. Delaney, is all about.
In this religious fiction, a group of conservative Christians who lead an organization called The Call is introduced. Their mission is to fight against ungodly scientific innovations such as human cloning. This agenda does not sit well with influential people in corporations in charge of these innovations. They contract an assassin called Nicolai Virshenko. One by one, the leaders of The Call are eliminated. Andrew, one of the charismatic leaders of The Call, shortly becomes a target together with his family. Will Nicolai succeed in silencing The Call by eliminating one of the strongest pillars? Will God help Andrew, his faithful servant?
There was much to love about this book. The author's vivid description of sceneries and events was remarkable. I especially loved Nicolai's background story, which sheds light on his demeanor. The author also did excellent character development and allowed us to know the main characters deeply. The action was in perfect doses without unnecessary exaggerations. I also relished the alternating accounts from the first-person perspective to the third-person perspective. It gave Andrew's character a personalized touch as we could hear his inner thoughts. I also loved the glimmer of the supernatural and how the author depicted the role of the heavenly host. A believer reading the book will be encouraged that we are not alone in our struggles.
There was nothing I disliked about this book. The book was flawlessly edited. The author delivered from the introduction to the last page. The ending gave this book so much credibility with a final speech you need to hear if you are a believer.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book is deep and educational. It is not too violent and can be enjoyed by all factions of people. I recommend this book to anyone who believes the world needs a hero to stop the human race from going too far. Lovers of religious fiction will also find this book enticing.
