The author does a fabulous job weaving reality and fantasy, making the fantastic seem plausible. Also, a treat to read something so rooted in the Pacific Northwest, a familiar country. Kick back and enjoy the ride.

The only part of the story I was left wondering about was Roger. He seemed to have been part of the scamming that was going on in the mining yet he gets to stay on without seemingly answering to his part of involvement. All in all, I would definitely recommend the book to all who love a nice adventure, mythology, suspense, and thriller books.

Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the tale. As for Roger, yes, he was part of the Buckhorn group, the security head, doing his job as told, and yes he was very much part of the entire artifact plan, so in that sense he was a "bad guy." But he was also a father and he also was up in Bear Valley and saw what happened there, with the bears, and later with Conner and then Jared, and I wanted, at the end, to show that in the end Roger, too, chose to remain on the peninsula, and had a chance to do so. I also wanted to leave the slight opening that maybe Victoria and Roger might start up something, although I also had Henry the geneticist there as well for that purpose.....so, at the end, maybe even Roger finds a form of forgiveness and understanding?Beatrice Mwangi 5 wrote: ↑23 Feb 2022, 06:49 I have just finished reading the book and I definitely rate it 4 out 4 stars. The story is quite captivating. I went through the whole range of emotions reading the book. The loses; Tom-Tom, William, Carl, the wins; solving the mysteries in the bear valley, the hidden place, and the marking place. The reflection of culture from the various characters in the story was brilliant. The history and the description of the various places make you want to go there, it was well done. The author's style of creating suspense throughout the book was great.

First, the cover design sets the stage for an eerie experience. Then the chapter numbers displayed in between ghostly palms further deepens the eerie nature of the book.
However, I noticed the formatting on my Kindle Reader was a bit messed up. New chapters started in between pages. I want to believe that the PDF looks a lot better.
I'd rate Totem 4 out of 4 stars.
