"First Survivor: The Impossible Childhood Cancer Breakthrough"

Post by Lorna Philip Enslin »

I applaud Mark Unger for his bravery in writing this book.

There can be no greater fear for a parent than the fear of a child's cancer diagnosis. Throughout this book, I was reminded how extraordinarily brave the entire Unger family were and are. There was no self-pity or recriminations and I commend all of them for the way they conducted themselves throughout their ordeal. Young Louis deserves many accolades in his life for his commitment and dedication to his recovery and well-being and I'd like to see a book one day from this very brave young man.

The whole family was very brave and I applaud them for maintaining hope. They had remarkable strength and courage, especially young Louis. They all played their roles and worked together to function as a family. I feel like I wouldn't have been able to keep having such faith and courage.

I agree! The strength and resilience that the entire Unger family displayed is purely phenomenal. This book has touched me deeply and I really hope that everything goes smoothly henceforth for the Unger family.

I can relate to the book so much. The family uniting as one and being so supportive seemed so good.

Their story is truly inspirational. They reflect what it means to be a family. They worked together as a unit. Even though it was such a painful journey, they never condemned each other but always supported and gave strength to one another.

Mark Unger did well to support the family. However, I feel his wife did more. I've come to understand that a mother's bond with a child is quite strong. So it must have taken a lot for Louis' mother to see him through the painful treatments he went through and rarely broke down in front of him. I admired that.

The fact that’s it’s a true life story makes it all the more inspiring. Cancer has been tackled and beaten by many, and many survivors will still emerge.

Overcoming cancer is a huge fit but staying strong and united as a family through it is a more difficult task. No child should ever have to go through the same.

We get over it or we get over it! It is essential, not to give up, to keep going, to look for options, to look for the means. They all fought tirelessly and fortunately they overcame it! I would also like to read a story or a personal improvement guide about young Louis' experience.

As I read the book, I was motivated and hopeful to see how the family discovered strengths and abilities they perhaps didn't know they had, and everything was achieved because they loved one another so much. What a life lesson!
