The book sounds really interesting. The problem of racism is very acute nowadays as it has spread worldwide in every possible way. I hope Vanessa ends up with a good life she deserves and a happy end. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

I completely agree with your assessment of "Deceptive Calm". The author masterfully weaves together themes of identity, belonging, and resilience in the face of racial tensions and discrimination. Vanessa's journey towards self-acceptance is deeply moving, and Trisha's courage and loyalty are truly inspiring. I also loved Sis Rosalie's humor and warmth, which added a beautiful layer of depth to the story.

Vanessa in Patricia Skipper's "Deceptive Calm" is a normal human being. Everyone deserves a friend like Trisha. I would love to know how she overcame the challenges she encountered as a black woman. Congrats on BOTD.

This sounds like a gripping tale. Trisha's life hangs in the balance as she is attacked by the cult group. The 1960s and earlier was a terrible time when racism and other forms of discrimination were harsh and rampant.

The story seems to have an intricate plot twist. I rarely read books under romance genre. But this will be added to my want to read shelf. How did Vanessa, a black woman, end up being identified by society as white? Sounds like a tough racial conflict. Did Vanessa ever accept her true racial identity? Did Trisha manage to save her friend Vanessa from the attack? If yes, how did she do it? I will read the book to find out.

I think this is much-needed these days. Racism is still rampant everywhere. Its frustrating that we are in 2024, with half the year already gone, and still there is so much discrimination. We need stories like these. Good review; I really enjoyed reading it.

Your introduction is amazing and captivating. You have done a good job summarizing all the crucial aspects of this book. Trisha's story is a good example of how racism affects our society. I look forward to following Vanessa's struggle to the end. Thank you.

Vanessa’s quest for a sense of belonging in a racial and prejudiced society is truly heartwarming. Trisha’s courage and bravery are outstanding. The group clashes, and unrest is at its peak. How will things turn out for Vanessa? Will Trisha succumb to her injuries?

Patricia Skipper's Deceptive Calm powerfully explores the inherent human desire for acceptance and belonging through the struggles of Vanessa, a black woman grappling with her identity in a racially tense society. The novel's portrayal of friendship, resilience, and societal prejudices creates a gripping narrative that delves into the complexities of race and self-acceptance.

 I give this book a rating of 5/5 mainly because it has a rich history and still resonates with life today. As we all know, discrimination against race is still going on in full swing. I enjoyed the friendship between Vanessa and Trisha because that is one where no discrimination of any accord takes place. I must say that this author deserves an award for blending the rich history by making it seem alive still today! :D
