Poetry by Angela Brown isn't just a collection of poems. There is a connection between them. They all tie back to the author and how they grew up, but it isn't only about Angela. It's about the collective experience that she shared with her peers. Whether it was about days in school, protesting injustices in the world, or specific poems for people, Angela touched on topics that others could relate to while talking about her life experiences.

Two of my favorite poems are "Peaceful Protest" and "Speaking Out." Both poems talk about the topic of injustice. Specifically, "Peaceful Protest" talks about being punished for being different in ways that can't be picked or changed. "Speaking Out" talks about the inner voice and its strengths. It's something that any marginalized group can relate to. Using your voice to fight injustice is difficult, but reading some of Angela's poems is enlightening. Angela gives courage through their poems. These sorts of poems stuck with me the most during my read.

There were no errors in my read-through of Poetry by Angela Brown. There was nothing I would change about this collection of poems regarding content. I would suggest going through it again because there were some formatting losses in the work that changed so drastically that I needed a few moments to get back into the flow of the poems. Changes included titles that weren't distinguished from the text, and the font, size, and location of text on the page were changed. Poetry is subjective, and even the smallest things can take readers out of the work.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys poetry, especially if they want a deep connection between works. In this book, I found plenty of connections. For all the reasons I listed above, I give this book five out of five stars. I look forward to checking out what else Angela Brown has.

I am glad to see that one of the things this book does is to encourage and motivate those who are standing up to injustice around the globe. It is also good to read that the book is perfect and hence the perfect rating. As one who enjoys reading poetry, I thank you for the informative review, @Lauren Victoria.
