What would you do with your used books

Post by egiu »

Over the years those books piled up. I am quit sure that I won't read most of them twice.

There's a charity in GA called Sheltering Books. They disperse books among shelters, residential treatment facilities, and hospitals. They're easy to find online! They recommend shipping to them via media mail to conserve funds. I highly recommend them.

It probably doesn't matter if you just wrote a little bit. Maybe you could go through them?

I have a used book store that lets me trade in books. For every two i bring in i get credit to buy 1. Each book is only a dollar anyway so it fuels my book addiction. I am pretty stingy. I only keep books i would rate an honest 4. For me i have to be completely blown away.

Have you talked to your local library? They might have some ideas for you. Otherwise, I would also recommend calling a used book store. Have you ever heard of a paperback swap? Someone on the intro forum I believe is involved in one. Might it be something you would be interested in?

We have a store here in Louisville called Half-Priced Books, but what they offer you is always an offensively-low number. I don't know if you have any better options where you are...?

I would not recommend Half-Price books either. We have them here in Wisconsin, and I think they are a rip off. You can buy or sell, but their books are no cheaper than a new bookstore and you get mere pennies for used books.

I am so nervous I will someday get to the point where I will have too many books and not know what to do with them. I'm so bad with throwing books out or giving them away, I treat them like my babies!

It takes me a long time to commit to giving up my books. When I have come to terms with the fact they are no longer going to bring anything to me - I give them to the local thirft shops. I have also donated a fair amount to the used bookstores in my city. Good luck!

I have books from back when I was in Elementary School. Over the years my pile of books has been steadily growing and I have no intentions of getting rid of them, even the ones that I won't read a second time. I want to create a personal library but if I wasn't doing that I would have donated them.

For the books that I don't want to keep anymore I take to the thrift store and get a credit there so I can buy more books.

If I think they are worth it, I'll take them to a used bookstore. I can get more books I want to read that way. If not I'll take them to good will or give them to a friend.
