translated poetry, good or bad?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

Not amazing because things get lost in translation, but sometimes we don't have a choice and the translation ends up being helpful. So I guess it depends.

I don't enjoy translated poetry. Part of the magic is deciphering the poem on your own. It gives a certain jolt of dopamine.

"Translated poetry, a delicate dance of words crossing borders. While nuances may shift, the essence endures—a bridge connecting diverse hearts through shared emotions."

I prefer to read it in the language it was written in, I feel it is more poetic and true.

translated poetry is good.Actually, one of my favourite poems is La Barca de Oro.This is a spanish poem.I wouldn't have known it,were it not for translation. In English,it goes by the title'The Golden Boat'.It is a nice poem,I recommend it to readers of this post.

@Eobi jonh I'd agree. I think the cadence of the original and the nuances in meaning are lost in translation, though I have read some exceptional translated poetry too.

Translated poetry is not bad.It is very good and should be encouraged. It exposes readers to a much wider world. For example ,I have come to know about nice Spanish and ancient Greek poems.I wouldn't have known were it for translation.
