Spoken Word

Post by Scott »

Does anyone like spoken word?

I love it. I've never done any performance poetry or spoken word, but I love to watch Def Poetry on HBO. I don't have HBO anymore, but I still catch it on On Demand if I'm at a friends house who has it. The greatest part is that Def Poetry is hosted by Mos Def, who happens to be my favorite hip-hop/music artist.

i've only tried a few times (so invigorating!!) but i love listening. i've seen some of the def jam poets perform around NYC-- incredible artists. i think my style naturally lends well to read-alouds but i like the way repetition can really work with spoken word.

It's such a rush when you get up and give it your all.

Mos Def is one of my favorites. Did you guys know you can download most of the Def Poets onto Ipod and PC? I think you can buy it on CD too... At any rate, BlackStar is great (Mos Def and Talib Kwali). Speaking of Mos Def- he made a great Ford Prefect in Hitchikers's Guide.

I love performing spoken word, but then again, I love an audience, but the writing of which takes me forever. I 've only ever written one good one. But I do enjoy watching. Thank you On Demand!

Spoken word is such a powerful and expressive art form. I have never been interested in doing it. If you’re looking for more spoken word or performance poetry, there are plenty of great online platforms and local events that might be worth checking out.

I love spoken word pretty much. Think about the aura that comes into play whenever it is presented. For me, spoken words artist bring poetry to life.

Anyone who knows the some tips that can help me to perfect my skills on this field should please share it with me over here.

How would you distinguish between spoken word and recital of poetry? Or are they the same?
To me, spoken word is "freer", modern, whereas recitals might be poems from another century.

I just recently found a spoken word artist who fuses some instrumentals into the background of his works, I found it interesting.

Who would be some spoken word artists you recommend? I really want to get into it but don't know where to start.

I like it but I haven’t seen too much of it and would probably be too nervous to get up and recite a poem myself. There should be more shows centered around spoken word.
