In my opinion, when only a devise is saving a person's life, where eliminating this will end one's life, I will agree on removing the devise and spare the patient immeasurable suffering. Only if all the options and efforts were exhausted, that is.

I think there are a lot of things to consider for euthanasia. I don't agree with it because we can't really play God and kill someone, but sometimes unavoidable factors have to be considered. In Jeremy's case, there was no chance for him to live a normal life after blowing half of his face and if ever he regains consciousness, can his brain function normally? Anyway, this is a matter of opinion and we can't really say if it's really right or wrong.

I think this is so hard to answer. I have no idea what I would do in his place. I would like to say that it is wrong for us to take control of another person's fate. However, if that person clearly asks for it or wants it, is that wrong? I mean, people commit suicides by themselves all the time and we don't consider it a crime.

I can agree with you on this. I didn't read the book but I don't agree with assisted suicide.

Sometimes there's really no other option. some people are suffering and they want death. it's a humanitarian act at times.

Assisted suicide is a controversial matter. I think death is something we should leave utterly upon God's will. May be there is some relief for patient in future. World is full of miracles and may be some miracle is waiting for the patient...

I think it depends on the circumstance, much like with any other controversial subject. I recently read "Me Before You" and assisted suicide is talked about during the course of the book. It was better for THAT family and THAT person to stop living rather than to keep on living a half life. The gentleman in "Me Before You" was not enjoying his life and so was suffering and making those close to him suffer.
In "McDowell", I don't agree with it. But the patient didn't see another way out.

Honestly, I think it should be left up to the individual contemplating it. Would I do it? No. But that doesn't mean others can't have that option.

Although I could understand his viewpoint, I just do not believe taking life is ever justified. Life is sacred. Perhaps I would feel differently if I had been through as much.

I think it's helpful to consider that this is a relatively new topic. For much of history mankind didn't have the technology to "sustain" life the way we do now or to terminate it so sterily. I personally believe that life and death is in God's hands and that our concept that we're in control is actually flawed. As for myself, I want as little intervention as possible and I've prepared my children for the reality that I will one day die.

I disagree with euthanasia. I think it should be left up to fate. What kind of people would we be to choose death over life? Physicians should help preserve life or reduce pain, but not end it.

For me, it is still against my faith to terminate a person's life. Only God has the right to do it, even though it is the person with the illness who wishes for you to take his life.

Euthanasia has and always will be a touchy subject. Modern medicine has come up with DNRs now for circumstances to make it easier for doctors and family members to make these difficult decisions. Does terminal illness, unbearable pain or being in a vegetative state justify this action? Is it not akin to suicide? From a biblical standpoint, what’s the stance on suicide? I don’t believe it should be within our power to decide, a decision such as this is a great burden to carry and make peace with.

I agree with McDowell's view on physician-assisted euthanasia. When a person is in a situation where the life will only get worse if at all the person recovers, then it is better to end the person's life if he is in a state of coma or a similar critical health condition.
The disappearance of the word "I am" is indeed the highest happiness! :)

My father has an extreme case of Leukaemia and he refuses to do chemo again. If he were at his last and in extreme pain and wanted to end it all, I don't think I could refuse him. I think it's one of those things you can only understand when you have experienced it.
