Re: Has the God deceived us?
Some cannot be explained because they are out of our knowledge. Some cannot be explained because there are no such things and they are only myths and false beliefs. Some has no need to be explained because explaining it has no use for anyone.Trustedbook wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 00:32 God has not deceived us, rather has placed us on the level of our comprehension. According to the religious and cultural beliefs, one can put this matter into the above categorizing as well. But if we are not accusing God, then we should accuse this author for lying to us, even by taking compelling examples and evidence from ancient scriptures

I don't think we should accuse the author for lying to us! The author has taken examples to prove their point, but as with most things when it comes to religion, it is purely opinion. Anyone can take anything from scripture and twist it to fit their opinion, religious leaders and normal people alike have been doing it for centuries, what makes the author any different? I don't think God has deceived us in any way, if anyone it is religious leaders we should accuse. He has given us free will and the ability to figure things out for ourselves, it just takes time to do it. For example, modern humans have been around for 200,000 years, but it was only in 1610 we realised the earth went round the sun. It was religion that tried to dispute this until they literally could not prove otherwise.Sushan wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 03:38Some cannot be explained because they are out of our knowledge. God gave us the tools to explain things. He gave us the ability to develop our knowledge. When this knowledge threatens religious beliefs, the leaders jump in and try and prove otherwise because they realise that people don't need them anymore to explain God's creation. God has not deceived us. He has not intervened in what we have discovered, it is those who claim to preach His word that have tried to push us away from the path of science and discovery. It is only in recent years they have had to adapt and accept these discoveries because otherwise people turn away from them.
I don't know if any of that made sense, but basically, the author has only expressed their opinion, just like I just have. You can't really accuse someone of lying if all they are doing is expressing an opinion. If your opinion can be disputed and you change it and accept you are wrong that doesn't mean you have lied. It is only when you continuously try to persuade people in another direction despite the evidence then it can be considered lying and deceiving. The author, and God, have done neither of those things, therefore neither have lied to us or deceived us.

First of all, science or scientists do not try to dispel religious beliefs, because it is not the purpose of science, but to ensure a comfortable life to the humans (though sometimes they go against this purpose). It is the religions and the believers that often try to gain a scientific validity for their beliefs.B Creech wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 05:24 God has not deceived us—humankind has deceived himself. When you look at the complexity of the human body, how it functions, and especially the birth process, it is obvious those things did not just occur out of nowhere! And the beauty all around us like flowers, trees, oceans, etc. All of it took a Master's touch to create. I also believe He gave scientists enough knowledge to make us think but has not given them enough to dispel our beliefs!
Well, let's say that creation of human body needed a master's touch. Then what about the fossils and even well preserved bodies of humans that were subjected to extensive experiments and were found to be different than what our bodies are today? So did God create Adam as a predecessor to Homo Sapiens, or did he create him as a Homo sapiens and left some fossils to lead scientists in a wrong direction?

I see your point. Well, it is author's opinion. We are in a democratic world and people cn have their own opinions. And seemingly this author has interpreted the religious scriptures as per his need to back his argument. But the issue occurred when it was not scientifically agreeable.Maddie Atkinson wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 06:58I don't think we should accuse the author for lying to us! And I think you are correct. Galileo was kept under house arrest for his scientific discoveries. The church and the so called priests felt threatened by the scientific advancement, because they understood that it was becoming difficult to fool the people and make thier lifes comfortable because of the increasing of knowledge. So they tried to keep science and religion seperated.
But now we see a change of tides. Now these preachers try to legitimize religious teachings with scientific evidence. Maybe they have felt threatened once again, and this time more than in that ancient times, and now they want to keep people close to the religion and church by proving that religion is a scientific subject.

Obviously, we will have to agree to disagree. I believe that God created the universe and that He has not deceived us. Wouldn't you have to believe in a God to believe that He has deceived you? if you go with the big bang theory, you have to realize the odds are incredibly slim that it happened that way.Sushan wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 03:30For the notice, I do not believe in god as well as the creation. We are humans, we are flawed, and we make mistakes. God is not a deceiver. He has not deceived us. Numbers 23:19 states,
"God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" The same view is expressed in several other Scripture passages as well. I guess it depends on if you believe in God or not, as to whether you think He is a deceiver or not. If you know Him, you know He is not a deceiver.
I understand that this author has no authority regarding religious matters. Yet, apparently he believes in God, and that is why he has tried to prove the creation via an assumption. And that led to this question, whether God has deceived us or not. So, as I can understand, both of these cannot agree. Either God never created the universe, or He has deceived us

Only God has the answers to those questions, I certainly don't! My job is to have faith and believe in Him and He will grant me eternal life. That is what the Bible tells me, and that is what I believe. It is too complex for man to understand because God is all power; He is omnipotent and He is God. Sometimes we make what is so simple way too hard to accept.Sushan wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 08:29First of all, science or scientists do not try to dispel religious beliefs, because it is not the purpose of science, but to ensure a comfortable life to the humans (though sometimes they go against this purpose). There isn't any reason for him to deceive us. If there's any deceit, then it's from man. To me, I think after creation, every other things were meant to take a path in accordance with the laws of nature. The big bang? The law of nature. The rock aging? Law of nature.Sushan wrote: ↑02 Mar 2021, 12:04If the God was powerful enough to create the whole universe, how can He be not capable of making a rock look old, or fool the scientists by making the fossils age thousands of years? For the author's arguments and speculations to be true, either of these things should have happened; either God should have deceived us or the science has got all wrong. But if everything is God's doing, it brings us back to the conclusion that the God has deceived us. But why?Maddie Atkinson wrote: ↑02 Mar 2021, 10:16 I don't think this is true. I think that God caused the Big Bang and the events that followed were a part of His plan. You can make jeans look faded and old yes, but you cannot make rocks look old when really it is young. Just because you make something look old it doesn't mean it is old, you can usually tell by the wear in something what its age is. Fossils have been studied and the stone and literally be dated back millions of years, it's not just a guess, it's down to the composition. The universe is 14 billion years old and the earth 4.5 billion years old. Material found on Earth and in space proves that, for example, volcanic material. I don't think that God has deceived us, I don't think He has any reason to.

Maybe the stories are not made up, maybe they were misinterpreted at some point. Also, knowing that there have been a lot of translations from the initial documentation of biblical events, one could say that some information may have been lost along the way. Like she said, 'no one knows the absolute truth'.Sushan wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 01:00I agree. This is only a speculation and the author can be either correct or wrong. But what we have to keep in mind is that he has not merely speculated things, he has backed his logic with scholarly articles.Michaeljerry309 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2021, 16:55 Firstly I don’t think that God somehow deceived anyone secondly why would God make the earth then make it look older than it is? If you think he did it for no reason then he could have created us too for no reason. So yes the earth is as old as science says it is. Let us try to remember that this book isn’t the absolute truth as the absolute truth is unknown, this book is just yet another speculation of what the absolute truth is meaning that the author could be right or wrong.
On the other hand, 'no one knows the absolute truth' is a pretty commonly abused statement when it comes to this sort of religious or spiritual questions, since no one can accept them or reject them. So, with all due respect, the creation could have been an outright lie from the very beginning. Maybe it is not God who deceived us, but the ancient story tellers who made up the story

I agree. Even all the scientists do not agree to the big bang theory. But I haven't heard of any scientist who either tried to prove or openly stated that there is evidence to say that God created the universe.cd20 wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 13:51Obviously, we will have to agree to disagree. Actually for me to say that God has deceived us or not, there was no need to believe in God the first place. The author has suggested it and in turn, I forwarded the question to the ones who believe in God to see what they think about this concept. As far as I see, this author believes in God, and it is his writing that implies such a deceiving
And when you say God created the universe, there are many religions that believe that concept but in various ways. So what can we choose to trust? Can they all be true? Or can they all be false?

Well, actually looking deep into the question and God's actions made me to raise this question. If God created the universe and life in 6000 years, but intentionally made it to look old, and based on that now the scientists have proven that our world is billions of years old, what else can we say about that other than deceiving? If it was not deceiving, what was God's intention to do such a thing?Megamind136 wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 15:08 I think that God is not an author of confusion. I see. There is no use of arguing on a point which only God knows the answer. But, if all the inventors and scientists could have easily remain in their homes without going out and risking their lives to find answers to various questions that humankind faced through all these past thousands of years, why did they do so without praying to God for answers.B Creech wrote: ↑06 Mar 2021, 15:13Only God has the answers to those questions, I certainly don't!
