Great insight! I hadn't thought about this pattern while reading the book, but it certainly makes sense now. Thank you for making me appreciate this book from a new aspect!

I actually had never though about it this way or considered this. I think this is an excellent take on the way the movie was produced and which buildings were used depending on the part of the book.

I think that the buildings also reflect Quentin in each stage as well. His perspective changes with each subsequent building he encounters, and he is able to see and understand other people a little more clearly, especially Margo. It is like he can see through the cracks or the "windows and mirrors" or like his own shell is cracking open.

I absolutely agree that the buildings were a symbol of her true personality and how open she is in those moments. I never really thought of the buildings as having that much symbolism, and it is possible that Greene just wanted to demonstrate that she was curious and adventurous, but I do like this interpretation of it.

This takes the concept of the 'paper towns' Margo bemoans so much to a whole different way of thinking. I've never noticed this correlation before and I want to reread the book just for this alone. Going on that train of thought, maybe this is what influences her giving her town the moniker 'paper towns'? She probably saw the state of some of the buildings and in her own musings gathered analogies about her everyday life? Or quite possibly the state of the buildings just added to each setting and complemented her mood as it was.

This is a brilliant use of analogy by Green, if so. I just really thought of them as Green showing Margo can love more than the surface of things, not the ritzy mall or spa we'd expect her to gravitate to upon just meeting her, so this is an interesting alternative.
