I do think that the father daughter relationship was too predictable, and using one's physical features to indicate their blood relations is more so obvious.

The reveal that Captain Joshua was Devonte’s father was one that came as a shock to me. I never thought much of the resemblance of their eyes. I thought it was just a simple detail the author gave. He definitely did not give too much away as I did not see this revelation coming.

I think it was just good foreshadowing. After the reveal is done it seems obvious in hindsight but before that I was clueless. I did not find it obvious so I was impressed by the reveal.

I do not think so. It is just that the author chose not wonder far from what we are used. In the normal setting, a child is supposed to resemble his parents. If they are not look-alikes, then they tend to behave alike. Try comparing yourself to your parents, you may be able to spot those little similarities.

It depends on how you look at it. If you are widely read, then it seems too predictable, but if you have widened your to a great extent, then it seems too perfect. You seem to be a learned and knowledgeable and that is why it just seems to predictable.

I noticed that connection right away also. The eyes, plus the way Devonte's birth mom was described, it just made sense to me that she'd be Captain Joshua's daughter. I appreciate that the author took the time to lay the breadcrumbs so that we could put the pieces together. If the revelation of their relationship had happened without that foreshadowing, in my opinion, it would've felt incredibly jarring for the reader and like lazy storytelling.

To be honest, I did not catch any clues. I was completely surprised by that reveal. What was a little predictable to me was the ending, but that's ok. It's the ending I would hope for anyway. A happy one.

Amost everything in this book seemed successfully wooven. There are massive revelation I wasn't anticipating to come out like the real deal behind Skinner and Brandy. Hence, in this case, I see it as a perfect shadowing.

I think I share your sentiments. I started to notice it due to the author's description. The suspense is suppose to be there. There was not much surprise on my part.

I'm surprised that somehow, I missed all of these clues. I must have been very engrossed in the book. If I had noticed it, I might not have related it at all.

Using one's physical features to suggest paternal or filial relationships definitely is an obvious pointer and quite predictable. Reduced the intrigue for me.

I noticed the clues that could have meant Captain Joshua was Davonte's real father. The clues were not just in their physical descriptions, but also parts of the storyline. For example, Davonte's parents returned to the Maroon in Argentina to help them build and that is where Captain Joshua had gone in search of his wife and daughter. I found the clues were well-placed and not clumsily used. They didn't interrupt my enjoyment of the story.

I don’t think any of it was predictable. There were hints and clues that never made sense to me until it did make sense.

As for me, the entire storyline is not predictable at all, I was really curious at every point to fathom what will occur next.

I believe all of which are perfectly foreshadowed. I was at first, as well hesitating to conclude things such as the relationship of Skinner and Brandy because of the many hints but it was afterwards revealed. Hence, I adore Dan for that perfect strategem.
