"Well, most texts from the Bible are not truly religious and are truths. I don't think borrowing such texts would have any influence on the belief and religious views of a Non-Christian."
This is an interesting topic, since it is dealing with a particular religious view. If you ask a true believer, Christianity shouldn't be a "religion"; it should be a relationship. I like what the person said above because the Bible is a universal book for all to find truth -- it's just offensive to people because it points out our sin, and that makes us feel bad or angry.
"In my opinion, the book is sincerely not a particular religion. The information communicated in the book is universal." And, yes! This quote! Again, the Bible is a book of truth, to help show people where they fall short, and how they can be right with God. It is universal -- it's for everyone!

Any book that leans into a particular belief system naturally has to exclude a number of potential readers, but I believe it ultimately comes down to the individual to decide if they can follow along with the book without being affected by the religious connotations. I think it's worth sampling every self-help book before making a commitment.v

I don't think non-christians would be eager to read the book, but the use of bible verses are relevant to most chapters. Nevertheless, I would recommend it to anyone regardless of their religion.

There are, I agree a few quotes from Bible but that cannot be seen as the sole or most important purpose of the book. It certainly does not make the book religious. The author has used quotes from many known accomplished philosophers, and spiritual leaders including Rabindranath Tagore, William Shakespeare, Socrates, Lao-Tsu, Alan W. Watts, and many more.

I could relate quie a few words, and quotes of the author with the words of 'Ashavakra'. (Hindu philosper)

This book definatly cannot be considered as relegios or catering only to the Christian population.

My assumption of Religious background is that it pertains to any religion. He could have quoted it from any other book. As a Christian, I understand how important the Holy Bible is. I have read the MM three times and I assure you it is suitable for any audience. My experience has been that most authors would be inclined to state straight away if they are writing for a particular audience. I think that all books are to be enjoyed. They help us in many different ways. However self-help books are that, help to guide us on our journey if possible. Questions from the Bible are very enriching and enjoyable. Rob picks out what he feels is appropriate for the plot of this great book, and what a book!

Because those references have meaning that relates with the understanding of the book, religious beliefs definitely influence how much the reader would enjoy it.
For instance, a christian would enjoy reading this than a muslim as they have basic understanding of those verses unlike their counterparts.

I don't feel that the book is limited in anyway to just one religion. Though it contains some scriptural verses from the bible, it isn't necessarily a religious book. Anyone can read, understand, and gain positively from this book.

I think religion in general could be a little uncomfortable to read about if it is constant enough, if the reader doesn't share that particular belief system. However, since it makes sense within the context of the book and is not particularly imposing, I don't believe there would be an issue for most people.

Quite true, some self-help books are over dependent on religious doctrines. But Rob deployed them in a bid to buttress certain points. Except one is an extremist, I don't think it's enough basis to reject reading a book. Either way, every book is not for everyone.

The use of scriptures did not impact in any way how I view the book. In fact, it had zero influence on my thinking. The focus of the book was on self. How can I make myself better?
It's more of a self-motivating instrument.

I don't feel that this book excludes anyone who does not believe in Christianity; anyone of any faith may read it and possibly link it to what they believe

While there are many valuable teachings in the Bible, regardless of a person's religious background. I do think that it is a potential weakness when it comes to non-Christian readers.

I am personally not affected by whether a self-help book has a religious background. However, it can be argued that those who are not of the same religious bent as you may find this off-putting. I know people who will skip a book, especially a self-help one if it is combined with religion.

I've found that all religions are systems or faith and worship. Those two virtues are truly valuable to the development and enhancement of being a human being. I embrace all theology when it speaks of faith and worship in a healthy fashion. It's simply a really good feeling :) Rob

I guess this would limit the potential readers of the book. Although messages are good but the evidence they are based on may not be palatable for the readers of other beliefs. In fact some may offend the non Christian readers.
