"When its an actual book I can't read it if its an unusual font!"

Do you come across a lot of books in "unusual" fonts? I'm sure I must have, but I can't bring any to mind.

Nah it's not very often that I come across them. I find when I do though its usually teenage/young adult style books.

I don't know why but books that contain too many descriptions of places or surroundings like houses, castles, barn yards or mountains instantly bores me. I lose all interest in continuing to read :|

If the book cover shows something I wouldn't leave around for children to see, I will not pick it up.

Even though I've switched to mainly ebooks, I'm still turned off by uninteresting covers and badly written blurbs.

I don't like when there are loads of non-essential facts and background info. I usually quit a book where the story is bogged down by that.

As shallow as it may be, a good cover can make all the difference. In my experience, if it looks trashy and low-quality, it almost always is. There are definitely exceptions, but I have to have the proof of good reviews or a recommendation from a friend before I'll pay for something that doesn't look like it was crafted with care. My Litmus test is usually to just crack it open and start reading. If the first page starts to pull me in, I'll most likely feel confident enough to make the purchase.

I don't think it's that shallow. I'm a visual learner, so I tend to be pulled in by things that look pleasing. I feel that if the author didn't take the time to have a quality cover made, what's saying they took their time in crafting their novel. If the cover was thrown together, the story might be also.

I can't read anything that carries the word "like" in the description. It's a big pet peeve of mine. Like for reals.

I hate it if there isnt a brief summary whether its on the back, the inside cover, or at least an excerpt before the first chapter. Without those, i return the book to the shelf.

I enjoy romance but if the cover is very revealing, the I automatically assume it's an erotic romance which is a complete turn off. I'm definitely one to judge books by the cover because I use the cover to visualize the story as I read it.

Unfortunately, I do tend to judge a book by its cover. I really don't like the silly romance novel pictures. But now with e-books, I don't have to look at them!

I tend to do get attracted to the cover of a book initially, which I am trying to change. If I am captivated by the cover and title, I will take a look at the back. If the little summary or blurb does not interest me, it is usually the deal breaker. Sometimes, they are so poorly written, or just does not capture my attention. I hate the ones that just state a quote from a publishing company or a reviewer and does not really tell what the book is about.

Your typical thriller or romance covers. Also, large formats with glossy covers usually spell no meaningful content to me. Frequent in history books shelves, unfortunately.

Books with alot of history that it feels like I am reading a text book, I enjoy books that incorporate history but not to the point where I feel like everything feels like a text book.
