Review of The Dark, The Angry, and The Cry for Hope: Poems, raps, and the appendix of the darkness
How do you feel when the world is collapsing in front of you? Do you take refuge in your mind and your feelings, or do you ask for help? The Dark, The Angry, and The Cry for Hope by Vincent Palazzo III is a collection of poems that perfectly express those feelings of anger, loneliness, and despair.
We often describe feelings of sadness, despair, or pain as negative, or our “dark side." The author is constantly talking about love and pain, which I interpret as heartbreak. It was easy for me to understand his feelings and find comfort in his words, as I too have been heartbroken and have felt pain. This is the type of book that everyone can relate to, and once they read it, they will discover that life is only possible because of those dark moments. But the book touches on other important topics, like racism and war.
Some of my favorite poems were “The Truth,” “Lost,” “The Angry Retort,” “Hearts Filled with Evil,” “Depths of Depression,” and “Should I Cry”. This is an honest book; I even cried while reading it. As the author put it in one of the poems, “Only someone who spills their Heart and Soul onto a page in such a fashion can touch so many.”
There is nothing negative I can say about The Dark, The Angry, and The Cry for Hope. The book is so amazing; it might have helped me deal with those dark thoughts and feelings I had before reading the book. It has also been professionally edited, as I only found three minor mistakes. Overall, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This is a great book, the author's writing style is simple yet honest, familiar, and easy to relate to.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy poetry, even when it is not focused on love or positive emotions. I also recommend it to anyone dealing with loss or heartbreak, currently trying to find answers, or simply feeling they have no place in the world.
