Peyton Platypus’s Brave Adventure by M. J. Novak is a story with a heartwarming message. The book is suitable for children aged 2-8. The novel is ideal for a bedtime story for younger children and a good choice for solo reading for older children. The illustrations by Kirsten Gould are included after every page of text and add to the appeal for young minds.

Peyton wakes up in his warm and comfortable burrow and sees that his mother is not there. Peyton has never ventured out of his burrow before and feels afraid by the prospect, but he must find his mother. Despite feeling scared, Peyton heads out to look for his mother. He sets off along the stream near his burrow and meets a turtle. After introductions, Peyton asks if the turtle has seen his mother. The turtle tells Peyton he has never met his mother. The turtle states that Peyton looks like a beaver. The turtle suggests he asks the beavers if they know his mother and her whereabouts. The journey to find his mother takes Peyton through the forest and a farm, meeting other animals. He is determined to find his mother and learns some important lessons.

My first impression of this book was how lovely the illustrations are. They are colourful and fill a page after each page of text. The pictures encapsulate the text and are charming. Children will love the artwork, and the pictures will help capture the imagination of the young readers. The illustrations allow opportunities for discussion and interaction with children when reading together. I thought the balance between pictures and text was ideal.

The animal characters in the story are described well in the text. The drawings also demonstrate each animal very well. I liked that the readers will learn about different animals, their similarities, differences, and where they live. The book offers education as well as a captivating story. The author describes the animal habitats and their different activities. As well as this learning opportunity, meaningful messages are included that are valuable to children. The author advocates differences and how the world is not as scary when you know you are loved. I think these messages are wonderful and necessary for children to understand.

The book is exceptionally professionally edited, and the illustrations are delightful. I found nothing to dislike about the book. I loved the story, the sentiment, and the artwork. I found the story to be a perfect tale for children. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.

The story is so interested in that peyton wanted to know his mother,asked the turtle if he might have seen a mother bt responded that peyton looks like a beaver,and ask Peyton to ask beaver whether he knows about her mother.
