Review of Adele and the Whispering Garden
Adele's family is moving to a new home, and Adele is excited. She is elated when they arrive. The echoes, the floors, and the colors leave her enchanted. Nothing supersedes her joy, however, when she discovers there is a garden just beyond her bedroom window. However, the garden is not in a good state, and it looks like she is responsible for reviving it. This opens a door of adventure and learning for young Adele. She makes friends along the journey, including Squiggle and Lulu.
There are diverse characters in Adele and the Whispering Garden. They are easy to connect to, and they are all excited to lend Adele a hand. They all play a crucial role in the book's main theme, education. Many lessons are learned from them, creating an environment that is easy to adapt to. Squiggle and Lulu told us about their skills and how we benefit from them. Adele is the perfect main character. Her resilience and the motivation she got when she got demotivated are skills worth learning.
The illustrations used in the book played a role in telling the story. They clearly depict transitions and help tell Adele's story. An aspect I greatly appreciated is the book's cover. It is appealing and a good choice for children's books. Richards's way of including illustrations within the text covered the curiosity the children might have to see the pictures of whatever is being described.
However, I found that the designs of the headings in this book took away from the comfort of reading. The author embodied the theme but failed to consider the reading aspect.
I rate Adele and the Whispering Garden by Polly Richards 5 out of 5 stars. There's a lot to learn, from herbs to flowers and gardening to learning new concepts. I found a few errors in the book and appreciate the professional editing.
Reading Adele and the Whispering Garden reminded me of The Secret Garden. Although the stories and themes are different, the book is soothing, and the environment described in the book brings a sense of calm. This book will be exceptional for all children. It is both for entertainment and as a learning resource. Parents should understand that it is never too early to teach their kids how to care for the environment.
