Pearl by the Sea was written by Regina Mouradian and is a love story filled with political intrigue. The main character, Caterina, is a personal trainer, as well as a private investigator on the side. She is fairly new to the investigations role, and her inexperience shows because she exposes herself to the people she’s investigating, on multiple occasions, purposefully. Also, her fascination with researching people interferes with two potential love interests because she researches and confronts them. So, it is surprising that she doesn’t do the same with a new man, Peter, instead trusting his words and how she feels around him.

I enjoyed the characters; however, the love story progresses very quickly and without any conflict between them. The conflict for the novel comes much later, when Peter’s friend is murdered, and they are thrown into an investigation that involves history, politics, and the war between Russia and Ukraine.

There were constant changes between character's thoughts and points of view, which was confusing to me. You’d be reading Caterina’s point of view, and then suddenly, it switched to Peter’s or even a new character, who we’d just met. It was difficult to keep track of who was thinking which line. Also, the dialogue was very basic and unrealistic. The only way you could connect with the characters was through their thoughts, which were plentiful. I would have enjoyed some more lifelike conversations, especially between the two main characters.

I appreciated the attention to detail, especially in the editing. I only found two errors in the entire novel. As well, the history and current events included were researched and explained in a way for anyone to understand, even without any prior knowledge.

This was a very political novel, and the writer’s agenda was evident throughout the story. That was my main concern with the book. The war between Russia and Ukraine was a major part of the story, along with the dissemination of what can be considered propaganda. For this reason, along with the writing style, I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I think it had an interesting story; however, there were a few parts that could have been changed to improve it.

Regina Mouradian’s Pearl by the Sea weaves a tale of love and political intrigue centered on Caterina, a personal trainer and novice private investigator. Her inexperience leads to missteps that complicate her relationships and investigations, creating a compelling mix of tension and vulnerability.

Review:

I reckon, after reading this here review, Pearl by the Sea seems to have a captivating storyline mixed with political intrigue. The main character Caterina, a personal trainer and private investigator, adds a touch of excitement to the plot. However, her inexperience and tendency to expose herself to the people she's investigating can make things a mite unrealistic. The love story progresses quickly, lacking any conflict, but picks up later when Peters friend is murdered and they're thrown into an investigation involving history and politics.

Now, the constant shifts in thoughts and perspectives can be mighty confusing. One moment you're in Caterina's head, and in the wink of an eye, you're inside Peter's or someone else's noggin. But the attention to detail and thorough editing were appreciated, with only a couple of errors spotted. The historical and political aspects were explained in a way that made sense, even for those who don't know much about it.

However, the book's political agenda left me feeling a tad uneasy. The strong focus on the war between Russia and Ukraine, along with what seemed like propaganda, may not sit well with everyone. Taking all of these factors into consideration, I reckon this here book deserves a decent 3 out of 5 stars. It's got an interesting story, but some changes could improve the overall experience. Heartwarming story, filled with love and warmth.

A thriller with strong political elements connected to the war between Russian and Ukraine might be interesting even considering that romance is not my thing. Probably more editing work might improve the novel significantly to make it more engaging and interesting. Thank you for your honest review!

The mix of romance and political intrigue in this story seems to create an interesting dynamic, especially with the central investigation tied to historical and current events. The quick development of the love story, however, might feel a bit unrealistic, and the shifting perspectives could make following the narrative challenging. While the attention to detail and research is commendable, the political undertones and writing style might not appeal to everyone. Based on the review, I’m unsure if I would read it, but it could be worth exploring for those interested in political themes and character-driven plots.

This book’s plot seems like it’d be interesting to delve into, but the way that it changes perspectives would definitely make it less enjoyable to read. Great analysis as to the rating!
