War always has a negative aftermath on those involved, not to talk of its devastating effects while it's ongoing. Why would a nation not honour those who have given up everything to defend it? I'm glad the navy soldiers fought for their rights. I'm also glad the author added some humour to lighten this book.

I like to read historical fiction but I am not the very big fan of story of war because it's invoke very strong emotions that leaves its marks in your mind for a long time. But after reading your review about how author drawn it's character and how it's skillfully presented. I like to give this book a try.

I love, devotion to duty, friendship, and the aftermath of war give this book an insightful and heart warming storyline. Martin's story is relatable to most soldiers of war! Good job!

This Review was well written although I cannot stand the thought of war or the side effects. 'Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath' by Randy Miller is a book on love, friendship, devotion to duty, the history of a nation and the aftermath of war..

I share the reviewer's viewpoint. "No dead ends, only new paths" is a quote from Unger that inspires me and provides a reminder that obstacles are opportunities for development rather than the end. It fits in well with Heraclitus' theory that things are constantly evolving. This message is really inspiring to me because, although life can seem full of challenges, turning them into opportunities can have a significant impact. The idea causes me to consider my personal experiences as well as how a change in viewpoint can enable us to proceed with optimism.

Hi @Marianne Loogma, I just read your comments on the official review of "Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War And Its Aftermath" and I was disappointed that you did not say anything about the official review which is required to receive credit for a forum posting in the OBC Daily Giveaway Program. Even if you do not like a topic you should at least comment on the official review. For example, “Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and its Aftermath” by Randy Miller follows the life of a fictional character from Vermont named Zach Martin. Zach is a young naval enlistee that ended up on a ship in Vietnam. The U.S. Navy fought battles with the North Vietnamese and the aircraft carriers launched thousands of flights where the pilots dropped Agent Orange on the jungle areas, they suspected the North Vietnamese soldiers were located. The naval crew did not know at the time but they were being exposed to Agent Orange and many thousands of them died terrible deaths from cancer caused by their exposure. My older sister was married to a naval veteran who had been exposed to Agent Orange and he died a horrible death from an inoperable cancerous tumor behind his eye 30 years ago. 229,000 navy veterans served in Vietnam and thousands of them died years after returning to civilian life. My sister never received any compensation from the Veterans Affairs department for my brother-in-law’s death caused by exposure to Agent Orange. I had a college student deferment in college but I explored joining the Navy since I knew I would be drafted after I finished college. I almost signed the papers but my father told me to wait and see what happens. The draft ended while I was still in college and the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam before I graduated. I never experienced military life and in retrospect I believe joining the military would be good for all Americans since they learn discipline, neatness, develops character, develops teamwork and loyalty, and offers GI benefits for college. The story really hit home when I read the sample and the official review. Over 50,000 American soldiers died in Vietnam and many thousands were injured or crippled for life. This was a very turbulent time in America. I had a few Marine Corp veterans on my dorm floor and they were all suffering from PTSD even though I do not think they called it PTSD at the time. Seven of my elementary school friends had older brothers die in Vietnam. This is an excellent book that I highly recommend. @Mrlefty0706
