However, there are some areas that I think need improvement. Although the illustrations served their basic functions of complementing and adding depth to the story, the quality didn't impress me much. I would have appreciated clearer and richer paintings. Also, the narrative about Grover and Steve's defense of the plains didn't appear convincing to me. I think creating a more organized and larger number of participants in the defense (which should include more dangerous animals like hyenas and elephants) or giving Grover and Steve special powers to match the task at hand would make things more realistic.

Thank you for the review. I read the sample. An object lesson teaches children to love one another. A baby ostrich and a little donkey are friends in the book. Congrats to the author for the #BOTD.

The criticism of bigotry, the respect to people's identity, and being unafraid of standing up for someone or something alone are great assets a child can learn. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

'I found the story interesting and was always anticipating and wondering what next turn Grover and Steve's friendship would take, given that most animals in the plains considered their friendship incompatible.'
This story, though simple, will have deep lessons to teach.

This is a very thorough review that highlights both the strengths and weaknesses of this book. I think stories about respect of others and finding inner courage are so important for children in today's society. I love that this book captures this well. I thought the art style was pretty interesting, personally, however I can see why someone might find them lacking.

Love this book it teaches you the value friendship, who would have imagined the friendship of Grover and Steve to with stand all those trails besides being a donkey and a ostrich... Keep it up loved it and surely would recommend it to the little ones to know a thing or two about true friendship.

This is a great review! Having children's books about diversity and acceptance are very important due to the worlds current social climate. However, I disagree with your comment about the defense not being realistic. I belive in a children's book there is no need for realism.
