DJ Chronicles by John Foreman is a dark comedy that begins with the All Nude Club’s DJ Johnny B being put to sleep in 2008 for diverticulitis surgery. Then, it flashes back to 1995, when he became a DJ at a strip club called CG’s in Hollywood, California. Johnny B is happy with his life, surrounded by beautiful women and having access to all the booze and drugs that he wants. He meets Anna, and they have a daughter, Amy, whom he adores. How do Anna and Amy fit in with Johnny B’s lifestyle? Is life as good as it seems for Johnny B?

John Foreman did a fantastic job keeping the action flowing throughout the storyline, with something different always happening at CGs or in Johnny B’s other dealings. I appreciate John Foreman’s details about each of the strippers, their unique personalities, their troubles, and their reasons for becoming strippers. These details about all the fully developed characters made them appear realistic and helped me understand their various professions. Having everyone staring at you as you are wheeled into an emergency room, answering the same questions from different medical staff over and over again, waiting forever for pain medicine, and a cold surgical room was something I could relate to. My favorite aspect of this book is that it reminded me of why you should never judge someone because you do not know their circumstances. Although this book has some dark content about strippers and drug and alcohol abuse, it also contains lots of humor. One example of humor is when Vito throws the strippers’ shoes away. You need to read the book to find out why Vito did that. The book’s ending gives me hope that there is more to this storyline forthcoming.

The only objectively negative aspect I encountered while reading this book was the lack of professional editing, which included missing words, punctuation, a misspelled name, and other grammar errors. With this being the only negative aspect, my enjoyment in reading this dark comedy, and the many lessons you can learn about friendship, I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. If not for the multiple errors in the book, it would have received a perfect score.

This book is best suited for mature readers who enjoy reading dark comedy containing graphic descriptions and lots of profanity. If alcohol or drug abuse, non-borderline profanity, or explicit sexual content are triggers for you, you should avoid this book.

It sounds like a gritty, realistic story with a lot of depth and dark humor. I appreciate books that explore complex characters and challenging lifestyles without sugarcoating things. The themes of judgment and resilience are relatable, but the explicit content and frequent errors might be a bit distracting. I might give it a try if I’m in the mood for something raw and character-driven, but I’d probably wait for a more polished edition.
