I think I am going to skip this book because I don't like Trilogies in the least. I like my books to have all details answered at the end of the book and not to be met in some book that will be published in the near future. That's why once I pick up a good book I am usually up all night becasue I cant put it down until I know all the details and the story-line is finished.

That asides I loved the original Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures , so I was curios about this book. At first I was skeptical about the book and thought the author won't capture the spirit of the original book. Boy, was I wrong.

Imagine the mystical world of Wonderland was real? How cool is that??? This is the story of Wonderland with a twist. This is also a coming of age story which take place at unusual setting, to say the least. This is the story of Alyssa Gardner, a girl who hears the whispers of bugs and flowers. Apparently her mom suffered the same affliction and ended up in an asylum due to this. As the story goes on, we find out there is more to the story than talking with bugs. There is really a wonderland (oh yeah) as her mom claimed there was and it is much darker and twisted than the original world. Alyssa enters through the rabbit hole and what she discovers, will change her world. Family curse, quests, tea party, an evil queen and much more are some aspects of this entertaining story.

I really enjoyed the book despite the slow start. I enjoyed diving in into the dark world of Wonderland and being recalled of the original story. I am getting tired of love triangles though and wish the author would has skipped it. Apart from that the plot was engaging, the protagonist unique and likeable and the writing was good. The scenes were richly detailed and the story had some similarities to the original elements though with darker elements. I liked Morpheus, though he irritated me at times.

The twist in the end caught me off guard. I didn't predicted it at all! . The ending was also satisfying. While some things were left open, most of the threads were tied up. The book is geared towards young adults, but lovers of the genre will enjoy the book as well. I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. It was a good book, but it had its faults.

Since I liked the book, I am now reading the second book. I am more than half way through and find it not as good as the first. The heroin still didn't enter Wonderland at this point of the story and most of the book she is just busy deliberating her steps and avoiding Morpheus. I wanted to shout at her to stop that thinking already and start moving! I don't think I will continue to the third book of the series, when it comes out.
I love your reviews. I always appreciate how you don't spoil things but do give me a great idea of what to expect. I wasn't planning on picking up this book but i may stop in to my library tomorrow night to see if they have it. I see you're an extremely active participant and just wanted to say keep up the good work for people like me. Thanks again for your insight about this book.

I will definitely he reading the second book. While I am also getting tired of books being a series in general I am very interested in this one.
It took me a little while to get into it but then I didn't want to stop reading. It was creepy and there was plenty of twists on the plot to keep you wanting more. It was an interesting take on the Alice in Wonderland.

I finished this book a week or so ago, and I still have no desire to read the next book. Splintered was good, but it really didn't leave me wanting more. Maybe I am just getting tired of YA books.

Not my usual genre, but I think the book was an intriguing read and I'm happy with the storyline. I thought the characters were vibrant and I was very interesting in seeing how the book turned out.

This is exactly how I feel, although given it isn't really my genre I wouldn't like that to be taken as a recommendation not to read it.

Exactly. I have recommended Splintered to others, it is worth reading. It was just not good enough for the sequel to make it onto my overloaded TBR list.

It was a slow start but I really got into it after a bit. I did think the whole bug thing was a little creepy and overall the book was dark but I still liked the story. Not sure about reading book 2 though.

I watched Alice in Wonderland and read the book growing and still to this day watch the different renditions of it. I never really thought about what happened to Alice when she came back from Wonderland. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers (just like Alice who is her family) Because of the great suffering of the mind of her mother that landed her in a mental hospital years before. Alyssa soon fears she will turn into her mother by hearing this noises when she is outside. So to try and block it she converts to using her iPod turned up and creating artwork of the noises she hears. This is just the start of the things Alyssa goes through. This story had a lot of twist and turns and every time I would read a few pages and then want to take a break, I find myself reading more. This book definitely caught my attention and cant wait to read the second install in this serious. I would recommend this book to others especially if they were a fan of Alice in Wonderland. Thanks to A.G. Howard I have found another favorite author.

I really enjoyed this book overall. I do agree that it did start off a little slow, but the end result made up for it. I really enjoyed the twists with the original Lewis Carroll book (or so everyone says) , but I did enjoy that there was some sort of originality to the story. I have only seen the Disney Alice in Wonderland, and some things were different, but this book has allowed my curiosity to come to surface, and I am definitely wanting to read Lewis Carroll's version of Alice in Wonderland. Overall I rate this book a 4.5-5 star rating, (in my opinion) and I would definitely recommend to other individuals.

First grabbed this book because it sounded awesome! I thought it sounded dark and creepy and I like the Alice in Wonderland twist it had. Overall the book was pretty interesting. I thought it was slow at times. I have not read the 2nd book yet but I plan on it! I'm cutting this book a little slack on account of it being a first book in a trilogy and I'm assuming that's the reason there were some faults. First books usually goes slow like this, with only a little action. This one was exactly that. I wanted more action but I'm hopeful the 2nd installment will provide that!

I do recommend this book, and I also encourage you to hold out on the slow parts because it is a very interesting and creepy book!
