Re: Reading over sleeping

Post by Lucid_Enigma »

I always value my sleep and need 7 hours of it daily (sometimes less). I do go to sleep late due to reading, but I usually disapprove of all-nighters. My first and only (so far) all-nighter has been because of books. I thought that i'd finish a book because it was ending, then saw another one and thought i'd start it off. Then another and another and before i knew it, dawn had broken. That was the first day that I came downstairs with a grin on my face.

Every time an author gets me sucked in, i just keep going and going till i pass out or am misunderstood for being extremely rude:-P its hard when people don't get why you can't just set the book down.

Absolutely! If the book is just ok, then I have no issues putting it down and going to sleep, but if it is really good then I have been known to stay up half of the night reading. I have a tendency to do that if I have only a few chapters left of the book, and I am just determined to finish it.

It's crazy, but I have. Now I recognize that I can still read it the next day so I have a cut off. Sometimes you can't wait to finish the book it's soooooo good, but then you're sad you when you do, so anticipation is always a plus.

I've never gone an entire night without sleeping, but I've definitely had many many late nights spent reading. Once a book grabs me, I can't put it down.

only if the book is good enough to torment your mind enough not to let you sleep if you do not know what happens next!

I have done this since I was 14 years old. I find myself with a massive headache because of lack of sleep, but still end up reading all night instead of sleeping. I try to set aside time to do both, but if the book is captivating, I will not sleep til I am finished.

No matter the hour, the brain and body won't abandon a really good book. I've been exhausted, but revisited the best chapter(s) despite the hour.

I have found that I don't do it nearly as often anymore. I will do it if I find a book by one of my favorite authors that I've never read. I look forward to new releases with so much anticipation that sometimes I get around 4 hrs of sleep the night before AND the night after the release!

When I read "The Exorcist" I was too frightened to turn the lights out and go to sleep. Just one of the hangovers from a religious childhood.

I have done this many many times. It all depends on the authors writing style and how interesting the book is.

It depends on the book. There are some books that I know I can put down and wait until the next day to pick up again and then there are the books that pull you in so deep it's hard to tell if the book is just a book. I'm also an insomniac so having a good book at night never hurt me at all.

If I could find a quiet enough space in the house between 10am and 12pm I'd be golden. I can't begin to count how many times I've gotten the urge to just open a book and couldn't dive into the plot because of background noise. That being said, the time I get in silence is usually keeping me up well into the next day.

Yes that happens with me frequently when the books are just too good to put down.
