A fan humming in the background is the only way to go. Music creates a feeling the distracts from the feeling the author created. One masterpiece at a time, in my opinion.

I definitely prefer music while reading. It can be rap or just instrumental. I find the quite distracting, as weird as that may sound. Or sometimes it's just that the small noises in my house will distract me and music blocks that out.

No. If I did, I would just sing along and completely forget the book I was reading.

I usually listen to classical music while reading. It really helps set the mood.

I sometimes listen to music but not always, but when I do listen to music it could really be anything. It could have lyrics or some insane fast beat, or it is be mellow instrumental or classical. No matter what it tends not to distract me as I read.

I typically read in silence, but I can listen to soft instrumental music if in the mood.

I have never been able to listen to music and read. When I was in middle school, I remember high school kids coming into our classroom to test us to see if listening to classical music made it easier to remember facts that we read. We took a test after reading with and without music. I remember being very distracted by the music and getting a bit spacey. I am jealous of people that can read with other sounds going on. I usually need it to be nearly silent for me to get into a book properly.

Recently I've gotten into listening to classical music while reading. Pandora has a really good "Classical for studying" station.

I listen to music and sometimes have the TV on while reading. It doesn't distract me because I'm usually really into the book. The only time I can't have any noise is if I'm reading a serious book, or something you need to learn from.

No. The music distracts me because I get too involved in the rhythm.

I do!

I try to listen music most of the time when I'm reading, if not I need silence or a significantly quiet place to read.
And somenthimes I try to find a song, or a couple of them, that match with the book and keep listening that song(s) untill I finish the book.

It depends! If I'm reading something that is very detailed, or something for work, I need silence. If I'm reading something that's fluffier, or just for fun, I can read with music in the background, as long as it doesn't have lyrics. But, if I'm out somewhere (like a coffee shop) I usually don't notice the music at all!

I prefer complete silence when I read. I find it distracting and can't concentrate otherwise.
