My first reaction was is there such thing as too much reading? But then I thought about it and I definitely think there can be. For over a year I had almost a reading addiction. All I really wanted to do was read and I had to cut back on reading because it was getting hard for me to enjoy anything except reading. How ever, I'm still not sure how much reading is too much though.

I think the answer lies in how reading is affecting other parts of your life.
One should aim to have a balanced healthy and happy lifestyle.
If reading is taking up too much of your time and energy, causing you to neglect other things then it's too much. If you're efficient and can manage all aspects of your life well then sky is the limit.

You should know what kind of a life you want to lead. You should know how much time and energy you want invest in which activity. If you choose to invest it in reading then be aware that you're depriving some other activity of it. If you think it's worth making that sacrifice then go for it.
So as long as you are happy, keep reading!

I am a good example of reading too much disease. When I read too much (3-5 books a week) I notice that different books start to mix in my mind. Sometimes I even take a book that I had read a couple of days and for several minutes I can't even remember what was it about. That is how reading too much looks :)

My mom always told me that I read too much. To this day she still claims that my bad eyesight is due to the fact that I would spend my summer vacation with my nose in a book. I think that it is too much once it gets in the way of your work or family life. If I'm not getting anything that I need to accomplish done because I'm too busy reading, then it is too much. I have to admit, when I am into a good book, it can be difficult to think of anything else!

You can never read to much. Reading takes you into the private world of an author's imagination and allows you to feel warm and fuzzy, mad or angry and/or happy. I love to read because with reading there are no commercials. All I need is a bookmark and pick up where I left off at another time. This new generation in my opinion is lazy and play mindless video games which has no use in the real world.

I think a lot of reading is fine if it doesn't get in the way of your life and work commitments.

I think it's only too much if you let it get in the way of your responsibilities and relationships. But if you have free time, there's nothing better than reading! It's so good for your brain - not just on a mental level, but on a physical one as well. There are a lot of studies that show that readers are better able to combat Alzheimer's and dementia.

Too much of anything is not good for you. As long as you are not reading every second of the day, and are doing other things, and have a balanced routine. In other words just use common sense. If you read so much you forgot to brush your teeth for two weeks then you are probably reading too much.

WHen I was fifteen for a few weeks straight I read one whole Stephen King book every day. I can't really remember but I think I probably spent about 3-6 hours reading during the day without doing anything else.

Then there's the opposite question: how much reading is too little? I love having a reading session at the end of a very busy day, but sometimes I'm too tired to really get into the story.

I believe one can never read too much. I encourage my children to read a lot as well! It helps stimulate the imagination! I have always been an avid reader, since I was little. I always wanted to have new books. To this day, I can still form a full story in my mind while reading.

My hubby says that he never liked to read and he has a hard time picturing things in his mind. He has been reading a little bit lately and said that he tries to form the story in his mind as I do (putting faces to the characters, creating the setting, etc). He has a hard time of it but he said he is getting there. Anyone else agree or disagree with this? Thoughts?

I think it is too much reading if a person does not go outside to get some of that vitamin D...

Too much reading is the point where you don't even want to take a shower or eat because you'd rather read.
