If I could change one thing I would include more women as main characters (and more than merely potential love-interests). Additionally, I would keep Lord Eldus alive. He did not deserve to die!

I'm also not a huge fan of the title, but I do think it's okay since Galen (the main character of the series) arrives in Book 1, and that's about all he does. There's also the return of Meldorath and the Riva, although they aren't really new arrivals.

Character development. Definitely. Even though the story builds up pretty good and this is a good book for the start of a series, the main characters need a little more depth and purpose. I did enjoy the book so much and i don't think there's anything to be changed from it.

I would've totally removed everything about magic. I made the book seem somehow less realistic to me. That is why I did not find much use for Demetrius who is always pulling one magical trick or the other.

I would give the characters more background. For example, I wasn't sure how to feel about Galen. I wondered if he will turn out to be good or not, should I sympathize with him or not.

I think I would have changed the glossery to be within the book as opposedyo on a website. Still, I say the book was perfect as was.

If I could change a single thing about the book I would not make it part of a series/sequel, I would have it as a stand-alone and conclude the whole story in one book.

I would have also spared Lord Eldus, as I liked him, too. It would have been interesting to see what he would have done if he had survived.

The glossary was at the end of the book and on the website. I didn't find it too useful, since most of the terms were explained in the book, but I'm okay with that since I generally don't like needing to worry about whether or not it's worth my time to read a bunch of definitions.

I agree 100%. I think Galen was the one who needed character development the most, especially since he's the main character of the entire series. He didn't really seem like he had an opinion of his own.

I agree that giving more of the characters' backstories would have helped, especially for Galen. I think he'll be one of the few good folks in the series, since he is the main character. He would be more realistic though if his time growing up on the Isles of the Princes affected his current life/perspective.

Out of all of the aspects in this book, the thing that crushed me most and made me cry was the death of Lord Eldus. It was cruel and unnecessary, and now we cannot look forward to seeing him in books to come. I would most definitely save Lord Eldus! He did not have to die, and although the author will most certainly use this to help the character development of Marshus, I would have liked for him to live for at least one more book.

I wouldhave included a table of contents with chapters. Navigating to retead areas of interest is so difficult like this.

I would have definitely added chapters and named them accordingly and in a way that each was unique. I found it odd naming the chapters under the character's names.

Eldus' death. He and his family were well written characters. They died too early.
