No matter the genre of music, it just distracts me. Some more than others, but I read the best in complete silence, or white noise.

I cannot read while listening to music, it's way too distracting and I would just end up singing the song instead!

I need something in the backround, usually I will play certain genres of music for certain genres of books. I like to have playlists for series, I zone out completely with my music and a good book!

I usually don't because I am one of those people who gets distracted by any little noise and can't concentrate on the book.

I cannot listen to music at all when I read. I listen to music when I draw and paint, so listening to music while I read only distracts me.

It depends on my mood and the genre. Sometimes, I feel like the dramatic scenes need some equally dramatic background music to accompany it. For action novels though, I'm usually so revved up or too excited to flip to the next page to even bother with musical niceties to my ears. Other times, when reading in public places where it's noisy or difficult to concentrate, I pop those earphones on to negate or lessen the chaotic noise.

I prefer to read in complete silence, but if there is music in another room, the TV is on, or there is talking, it's okay as it's not too loud.

No, I read and write in silence. If I have music on I get distracted.

It depends on the kind of mood I'm in and what I'm reading. If Its something I don't have to immerse myself in, like college text books, then yes loud music. If the book is something I want to invest in and enjoy, then I may have something ambient to drown out background noise, but I'm probably reading in silence. What about when you write? Does anyone listen to music? What do you listen too?

I prefer silence, but if there is noise around me, I put on some music. It really depends on the volume of the noise, what music I listen to. If it is not so loud, I listen to classical music, but if it's like banging on the walls, I need some loud rock, alternative or indie.

When writing I always put on one song on repeat. So, after a while I get used to it and do not even hear it anymore. It protects me from the eventual outside disturbances. I like to choose a different song for every... project. And I also write only during the night, with the lights turned off and I light some scented candles.

Either way works for me, I like to read when it's silent but I also like to ready with music playing in the background, preferably something that has no lyrics, and smoothing. I usually like to listen to music that has piano, or flute.

I would prefer to read in silence, but I work full time and have two small children. So, sometimes I only get to read during my lunch at work or while my husband is watching TV or the kids are listening to music.
