Best thing about physical books?

Post by revathy sw »

For me, the best thing about physical books is definitely the smell. Some of my core memories come from the unique smell of certain books.
Sometimes, when you buy brand new books, or get ones so old that their covers have to be wrapped in plastic, there is a satisfying crackle as you open them.
I also like pages that have splotches in them and look brown and weathered. It makes me feel like I'm reading some ancient tome.
The satisfaction of manually turning the pages in a physical book is something that you can't get from e-books.
The option to read hardcover versions is also excellent. Especially when I'm reading classics, I prefer reading the hardcover versions.
These are some reasons why I'll never fully give up reading physical books.

So, what are your favorite things about physical books?

I agree, the smell of a book is an integral part of the experience! I also love when I buy a used book or check one out of the library and find something random inside that was once tucked into it by a previous reader, or an old book mark, or even a note to the next reader.

I love that with physical books you can set everything else aside and there is little chance of a notification popping up or the temptation to check on something inside the book. It's just you, and the book, which is peaceful to me.

I like the sensation of flipping and turning the pages of a hardcover book or paperback and the chance to use a real bookmark as opposed to an electronic one. You also get to see the book cover with all the actual colors and art used by the author. You won't experience that if you download a book from say AMAZON.

My favorite part is placing them on the bookshelves when I’m done reading. I feel accomplished looking at all my books together and it adds a nice atmosphere to the apartment. I recently donated a bunch to the library in case I have to move and oh it hurt me.
